Family Journey

Program

TMM operates a transitional housing program called Family Journey directed towards single moms with children who truly desire to live independently in a reasonably short period of time. The program provides independent living and survival techniques with ongoing professional support and guidance to facilitate the process. In 2005, there are twenty four (24) single mom families enrolled.

Very simply, the purpose of entering the Family Journey program is to use this short term, transitional residency to "get on with life". The moms do this by setting short and long term goals with the TMM caseworker. A very important part of this program is that these goals gradually and successfully be met. Upon completion of these goals, it is hoped that these women will be able to obtain an independent residence and lifestyle with no further need to reside on TMM's campus.

TMM Family Services serves women who are chemically free of all addictive drugs and who are non-smokers as TMM is smoke-free and drug-free.

Personal Story

This story starts off on a sad note, with a mother and child in a precarious and difficult situation. For many weeks this woman felt she had no one to go to for help. She felt isolated, depressed and frightened. At last a friend from a faith community referred her to TMM Family Services.

With her child, this brave woman rebuilt her life while in the sheltering sanctuary of our mid-town campus. She and her child were safe. They had a pleasant, affordable place to live, and care and guidance from TMM's Family Journey staff. She found a good job, reliable childcare and an opportunity to rebuild.

I use the past tense in speaking about this courageous woman, because she is no longer a resident here. She was recently promoted to a better paying position outside the Tucson area. Her congregational family helped her with a car and furniture, and we were able to send her off with the tools necessary to begin a new chapter in life.
