TMM currently provides affordable (low income) housing options to seniors at several of its campuses. In the Fall of 2016, TMM will be adding to its main campus by breaking ground on an innovative project that will offer 10 duplexes (20 units) of low income housing for seniors with two bedroom, two bath open floor plans. Half of the units will be ADA accessible. This layout allows for a senior to have a live-in caregiver or family member, lowering costs for both and allowing the senior to age in place. By creating a project that accommodates caregivers, the need for nursing homes and/or assisted living facilities is reduced as well as their associated financial costs that would otherwise have to be taken on by either the family or the State. The elderly population of the region continues to grow at a faster rate than the national average, and Pima Council on Aging’s Community Report states that by the year 2020, one in four Arizona residents will be over 60 years of age. A community center will be provided as well as some on-site meals. The project has an estimated completion date of Summer 2017.
TMM would like to thank the team at the Pima County Housing Department and Board of Supervisors for their support. A portion of the project's funding will come from the County's GO Bond Funds, and an additional portion will come from HOME funds provided by the Tucson-Pima County HOME Program Consortium. The rest of the funding will come from TMM resources and private funders. If you would like to contribute to this project, please click here.
